Dedication ceremony set to honor NW FL pioneer Augustus ‘Gus’ Tart – Aug 22, 2026
On August 22, 2026, a musical prelude will begin at 12:30pm, followed by the dedication ceremony honoring Mr. Augustus “Gus” Tart at 1pm, at the Air Force Armament Museum, located at 100 Museum Drive, outside of Eglin AFB.
The Okaloosa NAACP, in partnership with the Town of Shalimar, Shalimar Library, the Okaloosa County America 250 Commission, local leaders, and community organizations, will honor Mr. Tart, a formerly enslaved man and early Northwest Florida pioneer. The ceremony will feature historical presentations highlighting Tart’s life and legacy.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace Bed Build Event – Oct 3, 2026
The Library/Thrift Shop will sponsor a bed build for Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) on October 3, 2026. The beds will be given to families who cannot afford beds for their children. Our local chapter has provided over 740 beds to local children.
